At 1:39 p.m. volunteers were called to the area of 94 Colabaugh Pond Road. for a reported brush fire.
Upon the arrival of Engine 119, they reported a large brush fire. Car 2089 established command and Car 2088 had operations. Using the combined 3,750 gallons of tank water from Engine 119 and Truck 10, the wind-driven fire, located on a ridge, was brought under control within 30 minutes.
Personnel from R18 assisted with traffic control and providing drinking water to the personnel in the woods. Twenty Croton firefighters were on scene.
The cause of the fire appeared to be an unattended and improperly extinguished camp fire. The occupant was told to relay to the owners and others at the home to only have a fire in a proper fie pit container.
