Hostage Negotiator Called After Yorktown Man Menaces Police With Shotgun

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- A Yorktown man was taken into custody Tuesday after police heard him racking a shotgun when they arrived to investigate an assault complaint.

David Grolz, 40, was arrested and charged with assault in the third degree and menacing in the second degree, both Class A misdemeanors after the incident on the 3700 block of Crompond Road (Route 202).

Police arrived at the residence at 7:37 p.m. After they heard Grolz rack the shotgun,  they withdrew from the front of the residence and established a perimeter, police said.

County and state police arrived and at 10 p.m., a Yorktown Police hostage negotiator was able to make contact with Grolz and convince him to exit the house and be taken into custody, police said.

Grolz was placed under arrested and transported to police headquarters where he is being held pending arraignment.
