A Northern Westchester man is facing multiple charges after being caught red-handed with stolen merchandise from a Jefferson Valley Toys “R” Us, according to Yorktown police.
Officers from the Yorktown Police Department received a report of a shoplifter from an employee at Toys “R” Us on Bank Road at 4:44 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, prompting the investigation.
According to police, the investigation determined that a man, later identified as 48-year-old Cortlandt Manor resident Derek Harold Kaupp, allegedly stole $21.98 in merchandise by taking the item and concealing it in his jacket. Kaupp was later located by investigators at AC Moore on Crompound Road with the allegedly stolen items, and he was taken into custody.
Kaupp was arrested and charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, both misdemeanors. Following arraignment, he was released on $250 bail. Kaupp is due back in Yorktown Justice Court on May 1 to answer the charges.
