A 38-year-old man is facing two felony charges after state police say he fired shots across a busy area roadway near neighboring homes.

Troopers were dispatched to Bloomer Road in the town of Southeast on Saturday, Sept. 1 after receiving a complaint of shots fired.

An investigation found Gueorgui A. Stoytchev of Southeast discharged a legally owned Winchester 30-30 across State Route 6 within 500 feet of the houses, state police from the Brewster barracks said.

After Stoytchev's initial arrest and later in the evening at approximately 8:30 p.m., troopers returned to Stoytchev’s residence to provide him with additional paperwork. While interviewing Stoytchev, troopers observed an illegally possessed Phoenix Arms .25 caliber handgun, and a small amount of marijuana.

Stoytchev was charged by state police in conjunction with the New York State Police Environmental Conservation Police charged Stoytchev with criminal possession of a weapon (a Class C felony), criminal possession of a firearm (a Class E felony), reckless endangerment in the second degree (a Class A misdemeanor), two counts of an Environmental Conservation Law of Illegal discharge of a firearm, both unclassified misdemeanors, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Stoytchev was arraigned before the village of Brewster Court on Sunday, Sept. 2 and remanded to Putnam County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $15,000 bond.

Stoytchev is next scheduled to appear before the Town of Southeast Court on Thursday, Sept. 6.
