A Mohegan Lake man surrendered himself into police custody over the weekend after allegedly assaulting someone and leaving them with bruises and facial lacerations, according to police in Yorktown.
On Monday, officials from the Yorktown Police Department announced the arrest of 35-year-old Alexander Coghen, who allegedly assaulted his victim and is facing a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault following the alleged incident.
Police said that shortly after noon on Friday, May 18, the alleged victim reported a past assault that took place on Stony Street in Mohegan Lake at approximately 12:06 a.m., prompting an investigation, which determined that Coghen allegedly struck his victim, causing bruises and lacerations to his victim’s face.
Coghen surrendered himself into custody at the Yorktown Police Department at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Friday, when he was charged. Following arraignment, a Temporary Order of Protection was issued on Coghen’s victim’s behalf, and he was released on $500 cash bail. Coghen is due back in Yorktown Justice Court on May 22 to answer the charge against him.
