YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested 33-year-old Kent N. Wolfson, of Yorktown Heights, N.Y. on Thursday, on charges in connection with collecting unemployment benefits while employed.
The arrest stemmed from a complaint received by the New York State Department of Labor Special Investigation Division which charged that Wolfson unlawfully collected more than $11,500 worth of unemployment insurance benefits between October of 2012 and May of 2013. False business records were generated by Wolfson when he certified weekly that he was totally unemployed when in fact he was gainfully employed, police said.
He was charged with grand larceny in the third degree and falsifying business records in the first degree, both Felonies, according to officials.
Wolfson was arraigned in the Town of Wappinger Court and released without bail. He is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Fishkill Court on Tuesday at 9 a.m., police said.
