YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Yorktown police have arrested a 21-year-old resident of Putnam Valley on a charge of driving without a valid license, police said.

An officer on a routine patrol observed a vehicle allegedly pass through a steady red traffic signal at Kear Street and Underhill Avenue on Jan. 28, about 6:06 p.m., police report.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as William Hale Mauro, according to police.

A routine check of Mauro’s driver’s license revealed that his operating privilege was suspended, officials report.

Mauro was arrested at the scene and transported to Yorktown police headquarters, according to police.

He was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, an unclassified misdemeanor, police report.

Mauro was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Thursday, Feb. 25, officials report.
