The school was evacuated after staff reported receiving a call about a bomb placed in a trash can at around 8:12 a.m. Tuesday, according to Yorktown Police. An investigation revealed that a 15-year-old male student had “allegedly made threats that he had put bombs in trash cans on the school grounds,” police said.
The teen was later transported from the scene and charged with juvenile delinquency. Had he been an adult, the student would have received a felony charge of falsely reporting an incident in the second-degree, said Yorktown Lt. Kevin Soravilla.
“We responded to the scene, we had the Westchester County Bomb Squad come up to do a thorough search of the buildings,” Soravilla said Wednesday. “Everything was all clear and we let everyone back inside.”
The teen was later transported to Westchester County Family Court for further proceedings. It remains unclear whether the student was released or held in custody following his appearance. Staff at Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES were not immediately available for comment.
