George R. Nobles, 79, Of Bridgeport, Retired Bixon And Son Employee

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - George R. Nobles of Bridgeport died Friday, Nov. 7. He was 79.

Nobles was born in Greenville, N.C., to Alfred Payton and Roberta Nobles. He had been a resident of Bridgeport for the past 11 years and prior to that he was a resident of New Haven over 39 years. He retired from Bixon and Son as a crane operator with more than 20 years of service. He was a disciple of Faith Living Word Christian Center of Stratford.

Nobles is survived by his parents; wife, Jessie Mae Thomas Nobles of Bridgeport; sons, George R. Nobles, Jr., of Md., and Kenneth Pouncey of Texas; daughters, Ollie Nobles and Debbie Farmer of Md., Monique Pouncey of New Haven, Colette (John) Stephen of N.Y., and Chantell Simmons of Va.; brothers, Marvin Payton and Donnie Jones of Va.; sister, Doris Jones of Stratford; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces; other relatives; and friends. He was predeceased by his two daughters; and two brothers.

Calling hours are Friday, Nov. 14 at Morton's Mortuary, 25 Margaret E. Morton Lane, Bridgeport. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 14 at the funeral home, with Pastor Michael Winer, officiating. Interment at the Lakeview Cemetery, 885 Boston Ave., Bridgeport.
