One of the teams, Team VIIPZ, is moving on to state-level competition in Binghamton April 9.
Each team competed in an Instant Challenge round, which involved an unplanned challenge (either structural- or performance-based), followed by a Team Challenge that both teams had prepared for over the past few months.
Instant Challenges require participants to solve a fun, surprise challenge on the spot. Teams must work together to quickly assess the situation and generate an appropriate and creative response within just a few minutes.
Team Challenges require teams to utilize each member’s skills in such diverse areas as art, writing, technology, performance, engineering, and music to create a unique solution that can take from several weeks to several months to develop.
Team VIIPZ finished in third place overall and will now move on to the state competition in Binghamton.
For its Team Challenge, the members were tasked with pretending they were in a famous space, such as the Smithsonian Museum or the International Space Station and creating a skit on the spot, based on a made-up headline provided by the judges.
Team JOBATO will not move on to the state competition but finished third within their category in the Instant Challenges building a structure and having it transport a team member back and forth between two lines using different methods.
