This was an opportunity for students in grades 5-8 to perform with some of the best singers in the county.

This year’s participants were Melina Lange, Katelyn Krupa, Bixby Piccolo-Hill and Lexi Schaffer from Frank G. Lindsey Elementary School; Amya Davis, Lucy Notrica, Jackson Rose and Amy Wilkinson from Furnace Woods Elementary School; and Sabrina Antman, Katie Ciulla, Isabella DeBenedictis, Hayden Gelman, Matthew Klimek, Noah Lipton, Hope Minichino, Nish Mistry, Matthew Paolucci and Nicholas Perez from Blue Mountain Middle School.

The students have been preparing for this concert since mid-December, meeting weekly with their music teachers after school to learn the challenging repertoire, including pieces in Spanish, Portuguese and Latin.

"It was a treat to get to work with the students and a pleasure to watch this process unfold," said Furnace Woods music teacher Jacob Hefele, who also accompanied on flute at the concert. “The end result was moving and a joy to listen to."

Festivals such as the All-County Chorus concert provide young musicians with a chance to meet like-minded peers and challenge themselves musically.

“I am grateful for these young vocalists and to their families for supporting this amazing experience," said Frank G. Lindsey music teacher Rebecca Correllus. "It is my hope that this will inspire my students to become lifelong participants in choral music."

Blue Mountain music teacher Kimberly Dunkin noted that March is Music in Our Schools Month. “I cannot think of a better way to celebrate than to have the students participate in this amazing concert,” she said. “I hope they remember this experience fondly and take pride in the work they have accomplished.” Dunkin was also the pianist for the event.

Additionally, Matthew Paolucci, a young tuba player from Blue Mountain Middle School, performed with the 2016 Intermediate All-County Band on the same day at SUNY Purchase. Paolucci is a member of the seventh-grade band at Blue Mountain, which is directed by Amy Richter. He performed alongside other outstanding Westchester seventh, eighth and ninth-graders.
