The change comes after ongoing transportation problems and complaints since the first day of school on Sept. 5.

Parents reported that elementary school children were arriving home from school as much as two hours late.

Some buses were late arriving at school in the morning, in some cases disrupting the morning roll call for attendance.

DiCarlo sent an email to parents on Tuesday, Sept. 18  announcing Romeo’s termination:

“Moving forward, Pamela Romeo will no longer be serving as the Transportation Supervisor for the Mahopac Central School District. We want to thank Ms. Romeo for her service to the District and wish her well in her future endeavors,” DiCarlo wrote.

Romero previously worked for the Pine Plains School District in Dutchess County.

DiCarlo said that the transportation department will be supervised on an interim basis by Peter Ferone while the district searches for a permanent replacement for Romeo.

Ferone has served in public school transportation leadership positions, including the Brewster and Carmel school districts, for several decades.

‘As you are familiar, we have encountered district-wide transportation issues with a few of the bus routes’ timing allocations and parent communication,” DiCarlo wrote. “We are working diligently for solutions."

"As a result, a few bus route schedules may be impacted. If your child’s bus route is impacted, you will be contacted directly. Furthermore, we are implementing an improved communication process, so parents and guardians are informed in the event of a major delay," DiCarlo wrote.

DiCarlo said the district remains “dedicated to ensuring students are safe and set for success when arriving and departing school.”
