As part of the lesson, Haggerty's students read the book "Bud, Not Buddy," which is about a homeless child.
In response, students made sandwiches for the homeless and gave them to two Walden staff members. The staff members brought food to homeless people at the Port Authority.
“There are people out there who have no food or shelter,” said student Evan Torres. “We made sandwiches and included a cookie and a note with each one to make them feel better. It made me feel good to do this because we have empathy for people
The notes said things like “Hope you enjoy this food,” and “Made with love.”.
