Yorktown Student Places First In State Science Fair

On June 8, Ferguson took first at the competition in Upton, according to a news release from the Yorktown Central School District. The fair is sponsored by the Science Teachers Association of New York State and recognizes students throughout New York state who previously earned honors at county science fairs.

In April, Ferguson won the top spot at the Tri-County Science Fair that allowed her to move to the state level, according to the release.

Ferguson presented her research from work she did last summer at New York University on the biochemistry of the brain in relation to aggression, according to the release. She is set to return to NYU this summer to continue her project titled “The Peniatrical Gay and its Relation to Aggression Modulation."

The Science Congress was established in 1950 "to stimulate interest and proficiency in the sciences," according to the group's website.

Ferguson represented one of dozens of students with "outstanding projects" that were selected to participate in the state level event in Upton, according to the group.
