Yorktown's Thomas Jefferson PTA Donates $500 To Autism Speaks

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- The Thomas Jefferson Elementary School PTA made a donation of $500 to Autism Speaks, in honor of its tradition of giving an end-of-the-year donation for grade five as it moves up to the middle school.

"This year, in collaboration with the grade five teachers, PTA and the grade five PTA committee and myself, we decided to give to Autism Speaks,” said Thomas Jefferson Elementary School Principal Karen Gagliardi in a prepared statement.

Last week, fifth-graders learned about the Guiding Eyes program “Heeling Autism.” A representative from Guiding Eyes brought one of its autism dogs to the school discuss autism with fifth-grade students. The dog also visited students in TJ’s Aspire program.

“It was truly a collaborative effort and was well received by all,” Gagliardi said in a prepared statement.
