The cheerleaders recently went to Orlando where it competed in the National High School Cheerleading Championship against teams from across the country at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex.
Yorktown’s team scored high enough in the preliminary round to advance to the semifinals for the first time in the team's history.
"I am so incredibly proud of my team and their accomplishments," coach Angela Battista said. "This year’s team has been so motivated and their hard work at each practice truly paid off. They advanced to compete against other nationally ranked teams, and gave one of the best performances of the season.”
Junior captain Lindsay Baker was pleased with how her team accomplished its goals of going to nationals.
"We performed better than we ever have," Baker said. "Performing that well of a routine at ESPN and making it to the semifinals was an unforgettable experience.”
