An 18-year-old gunman who killed a teen during a botched drug deal in Washington, DC will avoid the maximum prison term after a judge showed leniency, federal authorities announced. District resident Eugene Williams was sentenced this week after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter in December for the fatal shooting of DeShaun Francis, 16, who accompanied a family member to sell marijuana in February 2022. Son Gives Vienna Mom $1 Powerball Ticket
A Fairfax County woman won a $1 million Powerball ticket, thanks to her son. Maria Roldan’s son had a Powerball ticket, but he was about to go on vacation and would miss the drawing. So he gave his Vienna mother the ticket. That turned out to be a $1 million gift. The ticket matched the first five winning numbers in the March 11 drawing. In fact, it was the only ticket in the nation to win the $1 million prize in that drawing. Craig Small Glasgow Middle School Arrest
A 44-year-old middle school guidance counselor has been charged with assault after headbutting an 11-year-old student in Fairfax County, police said. The Glasgow Middle School student called Lorton's Craig Small a "derogative" name on Tuesday, April 16, county police said. Small proceeded to "headbutt" the boy and carry him out of the cafeteria, police said. Detectives obtained a warrant for misdemeanor assault and battery for Small. Zoha Sultan Lorton Community Center Arrest
A 23-year-old community center employee in Fairfax County has been arrested for having a relationship with a minor, police said. Zoha Sultan, of Lorton, became the center of an investigation on Thursday, April 11, when co-workers told police she'd been having a relationship with a teen attending the Lorton Community Center, Fairfax County police said. Sultan was charged with four counts of Indecent Liberties with a Minor by a Person in a Custodial Position. Sultan was arrested on April 20 and held on no bond. She has been employed at the Lorton Community Center since January 2023.

An overnight fire razed a Northeast DC home that has reportedly stood for more than a century. DC Fire and EMS personnel were called to the 1100 block of 48th Street NE at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, where they found flames showing from both floors of a two-story home. Man Intentionally Rams Victim During Red Roof Inn Fight: Prince William Police
A 53-year-old man has been arrested for intentionally hitting another man with his car during an argument at a Prince William County hotel then leaving the scene, police said. Michael Lee Beach was in a physical fight with a 51-year-old acquaintance at the Red Roof Inn on Automotive Drive in Manassas around 10:10 p.m. Sunday, April 21, county police said. Drunken Fugitive Captured By Citizens During Police Chase In Stafford: Sheriff
A 30-year-old Virginia fugitive was captured by a group of Good Samaritans while running from police on Monday, April 22, authorities said. Jordan Perrin was spotted asleep at the wheel by Stafford County Deputy C.C. Crossett on Courage Lane around 8:20 p.m., the sheriff's office said in a release.
