CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Local activists have been sending a blizzard of postcards expressing frustration with the folks in Washington. So it is somewhat ironic that the impending snowstorm has – temporarily – put a halt to their efforts.

Man Arrested After Failing To Appear In Court, Yorktown Police Say
YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- A Connecticut man who had been wanted on drug possession charges surrendered to authorities last week, Yorktown police said.
Ethan S. Gaudet, 21, of Somers, Conn., was supposed to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Tuesday, March 7, to answer charges of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, police said.
When he failed to show, the judge issued a warrant for his arrest, police said.
Police said that Gaudet turned himself in on Thursday, March 9.

James Belote, 73, Retired Ridgefield Deputy Fire Chief, Teacher
RIDGEFIELD, CONN. – Visiting hours for former Ridgefield firefighter and teacher James Belote, who died Thursday, March 9, have been set.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, at the Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield.
There will be no funeral services and burial will be private.
Belote, 73, was a member of the fire department for 50 years and had served as its deputy chief.
He also taught science at the East Ridge Middle School and was vice president of the Scotland Elementary School. Both schools are in Ridgefield.

Man Beat, Choked Woman Who Gave Him Ride Home, Danbury Police Say
DANBURY, Conn. – A Newtown man has been charged with assaulting a woman who was giving him a ride home from a restaurant in Danbury, the News-Times reported.
Police told the News-Times that Mario Guaman, 37, had dozed off at El Milenio Restaurant, 21 North St., and, after accepting the ride, had argued with the woman about who should drive.
The suspect yanked the unidentified woman out of the car then punched and choked her, the story said.
